Soft does not mean useful

AT-0159 → AT-0166. Cheap directions exist in any coupled system. The open question is whether cheapness ever coincides with the transformation we care about — moving the relational address while leaving identity alone.

Core objective

Lawful substantial gauge-invariant / operational relational-location change without destructive traversal — with identity, invariants, locality, bounded propagation, hidden debt and robustness all accounted for.

A direction being cheap to move along does not mean it moves you anywhere you wanted to go. Most cheap directions are simply unrelated to the change we are after.

RECORDED COMPUTATIONAL NEGATIVE RESULT. Across 500 generic full-rank sparse coupled positive-definite systems (n = 18, seed 159), the softest mode had median stiffness about 0.150 against a median random-direction stiffness of about 3.56, a ratio near 0.043. Its median overlap with the identity directions was about 0.162 versus 0.166 for matched random directions, and with the relational-progress direction about 0.168 versus 0.166. Only about 24.8 percent of soft modes beat a matched random direction on BOTH lower identity overlap and higher progress overlap — which is what independence predicts. SOFTNESS ALONE IS NOT SELECTIVE.
